The purpose of this study is to develop an innovative approach of combating economic crime using the forensic accounting techniques. The study recommends that the government should improve financial and human resource capacity at the National Audit Office so as to forensic audit. Based on the findings it is concluded that forensic audit is a potential tool for detecting and preventing fraud among public entities. Findings for the third research question have revealed that implementation of forensic audit in public entities in Arusha region faces challenges including difficult to cope up with new forensic audit technology, shortage of forensic accountants and auditors, inability to understand the goal of a case and inability to identify key issues.
Findings for the second research question indicated that forensic audit is useful in helping in discovering fraud, helping in fraud investigation, improving fraud management, helping in fraud mitigation and minimization of fraud in public entities.
Findings for the first research question revealed that forensic audit for public audit in Arusha region is affected by four factors which included fraud examination, technological usage, court proceedings and investigation report. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics by applying mean scores analysis. The study involved a sample size of 70 who included accountants and auditors from 5 public entities in Arusha Region. The study employed descriptive research design.
